Claus Morlock, born in Pforzheim/Baden-Württemberg, studied Visual Communication with a focus on Fine Arts and Graphic Design under the tuition of Professors Philip Pocock und Susan Hefuna. He is one of the emerging figurative painters in and around Munich, who aims at building bridges between Urban Art and Contemporary Art.
In 2010 Claus Morlock had his first exhibition at STROKE ART FAIR in Munich as cofounder of the artist collective „Paintuition“. Since then he presented his work in numerous solo shows and group exhibitions in and around Munich.
Since 2013 he is listed as a guest artist at Cornelia Walter Gallery in Munich, being part of multiple group exhibitions.
His work can be found in private collections in Germany, Italy and Spain.
Claus Morlock lives and works in Weil, not far from Munich.

Claus Morlock, geboren in Pforzheim/Baden-Württemberg, studierte Visuelle Kommunikation mit Schwerpunkt Freie Kunst und Graphik Design u.a. bei den Professoren Philip Pocock und Susan Hefuna. Er ist einer der aufstrebenden figurativen Maler im Raum München, die sich im spannenden Grenzbereich zwischen Urban Art und Zeitgenössischer Kunst bewegen.
Im Jahr 2010 stellte Claus Morlock als Teil des Künstlerkollektivs „Paintuition“ erstmals auf der STROKE ART FAIR in München aus und präsentierte seine Arbeiten seither in zahlreichen Einzel- und Gruppenausstellungen im Münchner Raum.
Für die Cornelia Walter Galerie in München war er als Gastkünstler seit 2013 an diversen Gruppenausstellungen beteiligt.
Seine Werke finden sich in privaten Sammlungen in Deutschland, Italien und Spanien.
Claus Morlock lebt und arbeitet in Weil, unweit von München.
ARTIST STATEMENT

My work is dedicated to the fascinating and complex facets of humanity. I’m trying to transform my observations, emotional states and visions into powerful paintings, painted objects und intuitive drawings.
My main interest is the exploration of the edge of existence. The confrontation with uncomfortable questions and viewpoints, piercing the surface of asthetic „sentiment“ and the impact of emotional extremes become part of my work. My goal is to create works loaded with the energy of the creative process and imbue the recipient with this. A piece of the artist’s soul preserved within a piece of art.
Depending on the subject and my actual emotional state, my artistic aproach varies, using different media, techniques and tools. The common trace is the use of mixed media: my artworks are always complex and many-layered, a mixture of acrylics and spray paint, dirt, coal and pencil, cardboard, paper, canvas und wood. Technical skills on a high level of excellence are essential for me, as well as improving those skills constantly. Technical excellence allows me to realise my adamant visions: from realism to abstraction and beyond.
My works are fusion in the best sense of the word: techniques deriving from Street Art/Urban Art and Classical Painting. Elements of Comic Art, Typography and Graphic Design. Philosophy und thorough conceptional thought. This fusion evolves into my vision of Contemporary Art which is feels at times uncomfortable, but remains vivid and accessible as well.

In meiner Arbeit widme ich mich den ebenso faszinierenden wie auch komplexen Themen des Menschseins, übersetze meine Beobachtungen, Gefühlswelten und Visionen in kraftvolle Malerei, Painted Objects und intuitive Zeichnungen.
Mein vorwiegendes Interesse gilt dabei der Erforschung von Randbereichen der Existenz. Die Konfrontation mit unbequemen Fragen und Sichtweisen, das Kratzen an der Oberfläche ästhetischen Empfindens, die Wucht emotionaler Extreme werden so zu einem Teil meiner Arbeiten. Mein Ziel ist es, den Betrachter etwas von der bewegten Künstlerseele und der Energie des Schaffensprozesses spüren zu lassen.
Meine Arbeitsweise variiert in der Wahl der Medien und Mittel, abhängig sowohl von der Thematik als auch vom aktuellen emotionalen Zustand. Konstante ist der Einsatz von Mischtechnik: die Arbeiten sind stets mehr- bzw. vielschichtig, eine Gemisch aus Acryl- und Sprühfarbe, aus Erde, Kohle und Bleistift, aus Pappe, Papier, Leinwand und Holz. Essenziell ist für mich ein hohes Maß an handwerklicher Qualität (und deren kontinuierliche Weiterentwicklung), eine wichtige Voraussetzung für das Herantasten an die inhaltliche und visuelle Abstraktion.
Meine Arbeiten sind „Fusion“: von Elementen und Techniken der Street Art/Urban Art und klassischer Malerei, Prinzipien von Comic und (Typo)Grafik, von Philosophie und konzeptioneller Tiefe. Dabei entsteht eine vielleicht unbequeme, aber ebenso lebendige wie zugängliche Gegenwartskunst.
